If you’ve ever thought of walking a little more on the wild side and choosing something different for your next cruise, this is an evening not to be missed.
Arranged jointly by Local Sunshine Coast travel agency Suncity Travel and iExpedition, Australia’s only dedicated polar cruise specialist, the event to be held in Seal Stadium, SeaLife Mooloolaba on 14 March at 6.30pm, will unveil the wonders of their first joint escorted* package to Antarctica and Patagonia, departing in March 2019.
If you’re a budding photographer, intrepid traveller or nature lover, you’ll be captivated by the stunning scenes presented by special guest, local adventure photographer Andrew Peacock, recently returned from a trip to the Antarctic. His images showcase the long drawn out polar twilights, soft pastel colours and shadows that feature across this magnificent landscape.
During the evening, you will travel with one of the world’s leading expedition cruising operators and be introduced by the Australian manager to the small but standout expedition cruise ship, the 5-star RCGS Resolute.
The tour will first explore the exciting city of Buenos Aires before heading to the world’s southernmost city, Ushuaia, to join the ship. The combined voyage offers an 11-day expedition to Antarctica and 13 days exploring Patagonia and the Chilean Fjords. You can either book the entire tour or select to only cruise Antarctica, however, choosing to join both expeditions offers exceptional value and delivers an experience you’ll never forget.
Setting out late in the southern season, it is an ideal time for polar photography or to fall under the spell of this amazing location and simply relax while soaking up the impressive views. With an onboard photography team, digital photo-lab, plus a team of naturalists, historians, biologists, ornithologists and geologists, this cruise offers the chance to capture the best of Antarctica, Patagonia and Chile and you’ll never be bored.
There are at least two planned landings per day (weather and Captain’s orders permitting) as well as talks and documentaries about the most spectacular areas you are visiting along the Chilean coast including Garibaldi Fjord, Torres del Paine National Park, Castro, Chiloe Island and Valparaiso.
iExpedition’s polar specialist Ben Alexander says: “Late summer in Antarctica is a magical time. Summer is slowly drawing to a close and the wildlife is getting ready to migrate north. In late March, whale activity will be at its peak, twilights over Antarctic summits have to be seen to be believed and you may even experience the first Antarctic snow of the approaching winter.”
Although the ship is 5-star, the atmosphere on board is relaxed and casual (no penguin suits required!) with the focus on the wonders of the expedition and the location, which gets everyone’s seal of approval!
